Dr Lara Termini is a Scientific Researcher at Innovation in Cancer Research Lab of the Center for Translational Research in Oncology of the Instituto do Câncer do Estado de São Paulo (ICESP), Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil. She has experience in the investigation of molecular mechanisms involved in HPV-mediated cell transformation in virus-associated tumors, with particular emphasis on oxidative stress and chronic inflammation. She was a researcher in the Laboratory of Virology at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, São Paulo Branch, at the Fundação Antônio Prudente/AC Camargo Cancer Center. There she participated in the Ludwig-McGill Cohort Study (1995–1997), the Cancer Genome Project (2000–2001), got her M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees and completed her postdoctoral program.

From 2010 to 2011, she was a Scientific Researcher at the National Institute for the Study of Papillomavirus Infections and Related Diseases (INCT-HPV), a comprehensive research initiative supported by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) and the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP). Between 2011 and 2015, she served as an Assistant Professor at the Santa Casa de Misericórdia School of Medical Sciences in São Paulo.

Over the past decade, her research also has focused on HPV detection, microbiome characterization, and methylation profiling in cervical cells obtained through urine samples and self-collection methods. In parallel, she is actively engaged in science communication and public awareness initiatives related to HPV, fostering collaborative networks to strengthen campaigns engagement. In recent years, she has coordinated HPV awareness campaigns in São Paulo with the support of the International Papillomavirus Society (IPVS).
