The updated understanding of the HPV natural history has important clinical implications, such as clinical counseling of women in screening and for recommendations on adult HPV vaccination. Thus, it is imperative that healthcare providers and researchers standardize the concepts and terminologies used based on the updated model of HPV natural history, particularly because many countries have adopted or plan to adopt HPV testing as part of routine cervical screening.
