Evidence proving that the HPV vaccine prevents cervical cancer has risen to the next level. Today in the New England Journal of Medicine, the following article was published:
HPV Vaccination and the Risk of Invasive Cervical Cancer, with ground-breaking results from a Swedish study in which our own Dr. Joakim Dillner (IPVS Board of Directors) has been centrally involved.
The study provides the first evidence directly connecting the HPV vaccine to the prevention of cervical cancer itself (rather than the prevention of pre-cancerous lesions). Congratulations to all involved for their effort to generate these useful conclusions. The argument in favor of HPV vaccination becomes that much more straight forward.
