Postdoc in epidemiological research for Virus, Lifestyle and Genes

The Danish Cancer Society is seeking a Postdoc for a 2-year position in the group Virus, Lifestyle and Genes at the Danish Cancer Society Research Center

About us

The Danish Cancer Society has its own research center, consisting of more than 20 research groups with around 200 researchers dedicated to cancer research ranging from basic research to epidemiological and translational research.  In the Viruses, Lifestyle and Genes group, headed by Professor Susanne Krüger Kjær, we primarily focus on gynaecological cancer types, including the HPV-related types.  Furthermore, we investigate the risk of childhood cancer and cancer risk after infertility and fertility treatment. We work in the epidemiological field of early diagnosis and prevention by identifying lifestyle, socio-economic and genetic risk factors. Many of our studies are based on interdisciplinary collaboration with clinicians, pathologists, molecular biologists and biochemists. We have established large population-based cohorts with the collection of information regarding lifestyle factors and biological samples. About the position

The position is for 2 years with the possibility of extension. You will primarily work on the development and testing of new modalities within cervical cancer screening based on our population-based studies. We have both internal and external collaborators and you will become a central person in this network. You will need to participate in all phases of the scientific process, including statistical analysis and modelling. In addition to this, you will independently work within the framework of other ongoing research activities, and the start-up of new initiatives and projects. The position also includes guidance and supervision responsibilities to younger colleagues and students (master’s students and PhD students). You should expect to spend time on funding applications, building up collaboration and project management.

About you
The position as Postdoc requires that you have a master’s degree in a relevant discipline, e.g., public health science or medicine, and have acquired a PhD degree in the field of health sciences. Furthermore, we expect:

• You have knowledge and a background within clinical epidemiological research, including screening, and infection and cancer epidemiology, preferably in HPV-related cancers.
• You have experience in register-based research with focus on the national Danish health registers.

• You have a good publication profile with first authorships in international journals.

• Experience in programming and analysis in SAS and R is an advantage.

• You have professional and human maturity and can work both independently and in close collaboration in an interdisciplinary group.

• You have documented experience in funding applications for scientific projects.

The position is for 2 years and available from 1 May 2023 or soon thereafter. The working hours are 37 hours per week. You will be located at Strandboulevarden 49 in Østerbro, Copenhagen. Salary and pension will be according to current agreements between the Danish Cancer Society and the relevant trade union.
