Open Rank Faculty Position – HPV Specific

The University of South Florida (USF) Health Morsani College of Medicine and the Institute for Translational Virology and Innovation (ITVI), directed by Dr. Robert C. Gallo, invite applications for an open-rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) tenure-track/tenured faculty position focused on Human Papillomavirus (HPV) research.

We seek an outstanding scientist with an established record of achievement in HPV-related research, including HPV infection, pathogenesis, immunology, prevention, diagnostics, therapeutics, vaccine development, epidemiology, and/or HPV-associated cancers. The successful candidate will establish and lead an innovative, externally funded research program that advances the understanding of HPV biology and contributes to the prevention and treatment of HPV-associated diseases.

The successful applicant will join a dynamic and collaborative research environment within ITVI and will partner closely with the Tampa General Hospital (TGH) Cancer Institute, contributing to the development of a microbial oncology initiative and advancing interdisciplinary collaboration in translational cancer research. They will be expected to establish a high-impact research program, secure competitive extramural funding, and publish in leading scientific journals. In addition, the candidate will mentor trainees and junior investigators and contribute to the Institute’s strategic growth across key areas, including virology, immunology, cancer prevention, and global health.

Qualifications

  • PhD, MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree in virology, microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, cancer biology, epidemiology, public health, or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated record of excellence in research, publications, and scientific leadership
  • Established success in obtaining competitive extramural funding
  • Experience leading collaborative research programs and mentoring trainees

Preferred Qualifications

  • History of continuous NIH funding or comparable international research support
  • Current NIH funding at the level of at least one R01 or equivalent
  • Strong publication record in high-impact scientific journals
  • Experience as a principal investigator at a leading research institution or university
  • Expertise in translational, clinical, epidemiological, immunological, molecular, vaccine, or cancer-focused HPV research
  • The position is based in Tampa, Florida, at the University of South Florida, a member of the
  • Association of American Universities (AAU) and one of the nation’s fastest-rising research universities. ITVI provides a highly collaborative environment with opportunities to work alongside leading investigators in virology, immunology, oncology, and global health
