Associate Senior Scientist and Group Head of the Tumor Virology Group at The Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics in Nicosia, Cyprus

Dr Ethan L Morgan is an Associate Senior Scientist and Group Head of the Tumor Virology Group at The Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics in Nicosia, Cyprus. Dr Morgan received his BSc in Medical Biochemistry in 2014 and his PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology in 2018 from the University of Leeds, UK. After completing a Wellcome Trust ISSF Early Career Fellowship, he undertook further postdoctoral training at NIDCD, NIH. In 2023, he established his independent lab at the University of Sussex, UK. His group focused on the role of human papillomavirus (HPV) in manipulating the host cell to drive oncogenesis, with a particular interest in protein ubiquitination and signaling networks. In 2025, he relocated to Cyprus to establish The Tumor Virology Group. Here, the group continues to study the molecular basis of HPV-induced oncogenesis in a range of HPV-associated malignancies, such as cervical cancer and head and neck cancer. In particular, we focus on the ability of the viral oncoproteins to rewire intracellular signaling networks. We are also interested in understanding the impact of HPV on therapeutic responses, aiming to identify ways to enhance clinical outcomes while reducing associated toxicities. Dr Morgan also sits of the Virus Division of the Microbiology Society (UK) and is an Editor at the Journal of General Virology.
