Dr. Md. Foyjul Islam is a Medical Officer at the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), Bangladesh, with expertise in field epidemiology, noncommunicable diseases, and HPV-related public health research. His work focuses on strengthening population-based prevention, surveillance, and evidence-informed policy in low- and middle-income settings.
He earned his MBBS degree from Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College, Bogura, and completed an MSc in Applied Epidemiology at the University of Dhaka. He is also a graduate of the Advanced Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP), conducted in collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Dr. Islam has contributed to multiple peer-reviewed studies on HPV epidemiology in Bangladesh, including research on the prevalence and genotype distribution of high-risk HPV, evaluation of cervical cancer screening programmes, VIA positivity, and serological responses following HPV vaccination. His broader research interests include women’s mental health, infectious disease outbreaks, and immunization systems. He is an active member of the International Papillomavirus Society (IPVS) and serves on its Early Career Committee. He is also a member of the Bangladesh Society for Colposcopy & Cervical Pathology (BDSCCP) and a member of the Executive Committee of the Public Health Association of Bangladesh (PHAB).
