Prof. Dorcas Obiri-Yeboah, as an academic, has extensive undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and mentorship experience across the various health disciplines, particularly Medicine, Nursing, Physician Assistants, and Medical Laboratory Technologists. She has held many administrative positions in her academic career, including Clinical Training Coordinator, Head of Department, Dean and Deputy Director for the Directorate of Research, Innovation, and Consultancy (DRIC) of UCC.
In addition, Prof. Dorcas Obiri-Yeboah has over 2 decades of experience as a clinician who has continued to bridge the gap between clinical practice and scientific evidence to improve health outcomes. She established and still supports infectious diseases clinics at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.
As a researcher, she demonstrates a multi- and trans-disciplinary approach, resulting in over 120 peer-reviewed publications in reputable journals. She has contributed to many policy and guideline documents nationally and globally, including the World Health Organisation 2021 guidelines for screening and treatment for cervical precancer and cancer, and many guidelines for HIV, TB and other infectious disease prevention and management in Ghana. Her current externally funded projects seek to improve access to cervical cancer prevention strategies for women living with HIV in Ghana and also train health professionals across Africa at the postgraduate level.
Prof. Dorcas Obiri-Yeboah is a professor of clinical microbiology in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, School of Medical Sciences, University of Cape Coast (UCC). Her main academic qualifications include a medical degree (MBChB), a Master’s and a PhD. Her education and training span institutions and organisations across the globe, including Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, among others.
Prof. Dorcas Obiri-Yeboah is a member of many national, regional, and international professional organisations and networks, including the National Paediatric HIV Task Team (Ghana), West Africa Health Organisation Infectious Disease Research Network, International AIDS Society (IAS), Organisation of Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) and currently she is a country ambassador for the International Papillomavirus Society (IPVS) and Ghana Chapter Co-President. She Chairs the IPVS Ghana Chapter HPV Awareness Committee.
